2015 - 2020 Subaru Outback (With factory Flip-Out Rails/Crossbars):
2 Bar Roof Rack Options:
- Currently, the only replacement roof racks for the flip-out rails/crossbars is the Yakima Jetstream 2 Bar system.
The factory Subaru rails are rated to 75kgs, however only 68kgs when set/used as crossbars/racks are rather flimsy and can rattle when not carrying any load.
The Jetstream system allows you to carry more gear as it increases the physical space on the roof racks, as well as allows the attachment of accessories such as awnings, bike carriers, kayak carriers, universal baskets/platforms, etc.
Not only does it give you the ability to mount additional carriers, but it also increases your load rating to 75kgs, minus the weight of the roof rack system (5.5kgs).
- There are currently only 2 options for this year model.
Front Runner Slimline II Platform, which removes the factory flip-out crossbars and bolts directly into the rails of the vehicle.
This will be the lowest profile option available and will provide the 75kg load rating, minus the weight of the platform (23.2kgs)
- Yakima Lock n Load Platform (currently not listed in Aus, will be available within the coming months). This also replaces the factory flip-out crossbars, using the same mounting as the 2 Bar Yakima Roof Rack System.
The load rating does increase to 75kgs, minus the weight of the complete platform setup (Platform K - 26kgs)
This system does sit rather tall on the vehicle, but the wind noise is very low and it is a quick-release system, so the platform can come off within a matter of minutes if required. The taller height can also be beneficial when mounting an awning off the side, as it will give you more head clearance when using the awning.
